A new structure will rise next to one of Reykjavík’s most well known landmarks. A suggestion for a change in the local plan by Perlan (e. the Pearl) in Öskjuhlíð has been made public on Reykjavík City’s website.

The change includes a lot for a new building north of Perlan, that would mostly be underground and be connected to the existing structure. A new district heating tank would also be built; the increased flow of tourism means that the existing tanks are no longer suitable to store hot water.

The new building will be around 750 meters and be home to a planetarium that will have an important role in the new nature exhibition in Perlan.
